
Sam is Deputy Director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), working at the science-policy interface to improve understanding of climate risks and uptake of climate services. Within C3S, Sam leads the climate intelligence, monitoring, and observations parts of the programme, working with partners to inform better decisions for society and governments.
With over 20 years experience in climate governance and sustainability, working at the interface between science policy and diplomacy, previous positions have included head of marine policy at WWF in Brussels, chief scientific advisor in government, research director for the private sector and academia.
She holds a PhD in marine geochemistry from the Australian National University and has worked in global fisheries and ocean ecosystems in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Australasia.
